In writing and typography, a ligature occurs where two or more letter-forms are joined as a single glyph. Ligatures usually replace consecutive characters sharing common components, and are part of a more general class of glyphs called "contextual forms" where the specific shape of a letter depends on context such as surrounding letters or proximity to the end of a line. from wikipedia
In other words, it is the orgasm of type. They make a girl happy while editing pages of techy-computerized nerd documents. Aren't those forms sexy?

agreed. I wish I could use them more often. I never get to use letter orgasms. It's such a typographical shame.
